One Day Hike on Kilimanjaro to Shira Plateau

Your Safari leaves at 8:00 AM from the pick up point in Arusha, where we will drive to the Moshi Region and Kilimanjaro National Park. Depending on the pick up point, the drive may take up to 3 hours.

 

We will drive to the west side of Mount Kilimanjaro and up through the forest to Londorosi gate where the hike will begin. With the help of your guide you may be able to spot colobus monkeys, crested turacos and more.

 

Your hike will take you to a 500,000 year old volcanic caldera which is also a world heritage site. Here we will stop for our picnic lunch, which is also a perfect spot for photos with views to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro as we watch the hustle and bustle of guides, porters, cooks and clients arriving and setting up camp for the night.

 

We may continue with a short hike to Shira 1 camp, Lion Gorge and the foothills of the Shira pinnacles. Here the Kilimanjaro snow covered table top and Kibo Peak may be visible.

 

For those with limited fitness or mobility, it is possible to drive all the way to Shira Plateu and then gently explore the surrounding areas on foot. Reasonable levels of fitness will be ideal for the longer hike. Later in the late afternoon we will start tracking our road back to Arusha.
